A tragic accident occurred off the coast of Velipoja, Albania, claiming the life of 19-year-old Nicola Lorio from Casal di Principe, Italy.

Lorio was on vacation with friends and his girlfriend's family when he rented a jet ski with his friend, Salvatore Di Tella.

The two were reportedly performing dangerous maneuvers at high speed when their jet skis collided about a mile from the shore.

Lorio was rushed to a hospital in Shkodra but succumbed to his injuries, which included severe head and neck trauma.

Di Tella, who also sustained injuries, was arrested by Albanian police on charges of involuntary manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting medical reports to determine if alcohol was involved.

The Italian embassy in Tirana is providing support to Lorio's family during this difficult time.
