A tragic day unfolded in the Italian mountains as four hikers lost their lives in separate incidents.

In the Dolomites, a man died near Zoldo, and a woman fell while climbing Croda dei Toni.

The first incident occurred around 13:20 when a group heard cries and falling rocks from Sfornioi di Mezzo.

Despite immediate helicopter intervention, the man was found dead.

An hour later, a climber fell on Croda dei Toni, with rescue efforts proving futile.

Meanwhile, in Trentino, a 26-year-old from Verona fell 30 meters on the Val del Rì via ferrata.

Lastly, in Turin, a hiker died after falling from Rocciamelone's peak.

Emergency services responded swiftly, but all efforts were in vain.
