A 36-year-old worker, Lorenzo Bertanelli from Marina di Massa, tragically lost his life in a workplace accident at Genoa's Molo Giano port.

While repairing a yacht, a heavy metal piece, possibly a propeller, fell from scaffolding and struck him fatally.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but their efforts to save him were unsuccessful.

The incident has prompted immediate strikes by metalworkers in the naval repair sector, with unions demanding better safety measures.

Local officials, including acting mayor Pietro Piciocchi, expressed deep sorrow and called for urgent action to prevent such tragedies.

The accident highlights ongoing concerns about workplace safety in Italy.
