A recent nationwide inspection by the Italian health authorities has revealed significant irregularities in the bed and breakfast (B&B) sector.
Out of over a thousand establishments checked, 20% were found to be non-compliant, with issues ranging from lack of proper authorization to poor hygiene standards.
In Rome, the situation is more concerning, with 7 out of 30 B&Bs failing to meet regulations.
The inspections led to the suspension or seizure of ten establishments, valued at approximately 3.5 million euros.
Notably, a completely unauthorized B&B was discovered operating out of a garage in Pescara.
Authorities have reported 289 administrative violations and 31 criminal offenses, resulting in fines exceeding 155,000 euros.
The crackdown also uncovered 60 kilograms of improperly stored food, highlighting the need for stricter compliance in the hospitality industry.
