Two young men tragically lost their lives early Sunday morning when their BMW veered off the road and ended up in a canal in Chioggia, near Venice.

A third individual managed to escape and was airlifted to the hospital with injuries.

He reported to rescuers that there were four people in the car at the time of the accident.

The victims, both around 20 years old, have not yet been identified.

Despite extensive searches by Venice's divers and emergency services, no trace of the fourth person has been found.

The incident occurred around 7:15 AM on the Lungo Adige road, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
