Scampia's Transformation Underway

Published: 2025-01-03

The final families have left the Vela Rossa in Scampia, marking the end of the evacuation of the iconic "Vele" buildings.

This milestone is part of the ambitious "Restart Scampia" project, which aims to replace the deteriorated structures with modern housing and public spaces.

The project gained urgency after a tragic collapse in July 2024 at the Vela Celeste, which claimed three lives.

The Vela Rossa and Vela Gialla will be demolished, while the Vela Celeste will be renovated for public use.

Over 2,000 residents have been relocated, receiving financial support during this transition.

The first new homes are expected by mid-2025, with the entire redevelopment slated for completion by 2027. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi emphasized the collaboration between institutions and communities, calling this a historic moment for Naples.
