Italy is bracing for an intense heatwave this weekend, with temperatures expected to soar across the country.
The Ministry of Health has issued a level 3 heat alert for nine cities on Saturday, expanding to fourteen by Sunday.
Meteorologist Mattia Gussoni warns of "tropical nights," where temperatures won't drop below 20°C, and in some areas, they may remain as high as 27-28°C.
This extreme heat is attributed to the African anticyclone Caronte and the ongoing effects of global warming.
Coastal areas are particularly affected, with sea temperatures reaching tropical levels, exacerbating the heat.
Residents are advised to seek relief in the mountains or the sea, although the latter remains warmer than usual.
The heatwave is expected to peak early next week, with no immediate relief in sight.
