Italy Faces Severe Heatwave Alert

Published: 2024-07-29

Italy is facing a severe heatwave as the health ministry raises the heat alert level, with 11 cities now marked in red, indicating maximum risk for the entire population.

Major cities like Rome, Florence, and Milan are experiencing temperatures soaring to 40°C.

The heat is attributed to the African anticyclone Caronte, which is expected to bring intense heat and humidity, leading to tropical nights where temperatures remain above 20°C.

As the week progresses, more cities will join the red alert, with recommendations for residents to stay indoors during peak hours, stay hydrated, and wear light clothing.

Additionally, the Red Cross is mobilizing in Turin to help prevent heat-related illnesses.

A temporary weakening of the heat is anticipated mid-week, potentially bringing thunderstorms to some regions.
