Corruption Scandal Rocks Italian Infrastructure

Published: 2024-10-03

A major corruption scandal has emerged in Italy involving the state-owned infrastructure company Anas.

The investigation, led by the Milan Prosecutor's Office, centers on alleged bribery and bid-rigging in public tenders worth hundreds of millions of euros.

At the heart of the scandal are the Liani brothers, former Anas officials, who are accused of receiving substantial bribes from the Consorzio Stabile Sis to secure lucrative contracts, including a significant project on the SS 340 Regina road near Lake Como.

Nine individuals, including two current Anas officials, are under investigation, with allegations of corruption, bid-rigging, and misuse of confidential information.

The Italian Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, has called for swift justice, emphasizing that those responsible must face consequences.
