Franco Alfieri, the President of the Province of Salerno and Mayor of Capaccio-Paestum, has been arrested on charges of corruption and bid rigging.

The investigation, led by the Salerno Prosecutor's Office, involves six individuals, including Alfieri's sister, Elvira, who is under house arrest.

The inquiry focuses on public contracts for street lighting improvements, allegedly manipulated to favor the company Dervit.

Investigators claim that Alfieri and his associates colluded to ensure Dervit won these contracts, with financial benefits allegedly flowing back to Alfieri's family business.

Over half a million euros have been seized from those involved.

This scandal highlights ongoing issues of corruption within local government contracts in Italy.
