Train services in Milan and Western Lombardy faced severe disruptions due to a technical fault at Milan Certosa station early Monday morning.

The issue, which began around 6:40 AM, halted the S5 line of Trenord, affecting connections to Varese, Treviglio, and beyond.

Despite repairs by 9:40 AM, delays persisted throughout the morning, with some reaching up to 120 minutes.

The situation was exacerbated by a separate incident involving a person on the tracks near Rescaldina, impacting the Milan-Malpensa and Novara-Saronno-Milan lines.

Commuters experienced significant delays, following a national strike the previous day that had already strained the network.
