A freight train derailed in Milan this morning, causing significant disruptions in the city's rail network.

The incident occurred around 6:30 AM near Via Pallanza, involving a freight train and a passenger train.

The freight train derailed, spilling a container onto the opposite tracks, where it was struck by a passenger train traveling from Domodossola to Milan Centrale.

Thanks to the quick response of the passenger train's driver, who activated the emergency brakes, the collision occurred at low speed, preventing further derailment.

Six people, including the driver, sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

The accident has led to delays and cancellations, with some trains experiencing up to 140 minutes of delay.

Emergency services, including six fire brigade teams, are on-site to secure the area and assist passengers.
