Severe Storms Lash Turin with Hail and Wind

Published: 2024-08-14

A series of severe storms, characterized by strong winds and hail, have struck the southwestern part of Turin and its surrounding areas, causing significant damage.

The meteorological phenomenon, known as a 'downburst,' has led to wind speeds exceeding 100 km/h, resulting in the uprooting of trees and damage to buildings.

In the Mirafiori district, the roof of the Salvemini school was torn off, and several streets in the Lingotto area were flooded, turning them into rivers.

The storms have also affected nearby towns such as Moncalieri, Vinovo, and Orbassano, with reports of hail in the Val Chisone region.

The regional environmental agency, Arpa Piemonte, has issued a yellow weather alert, warning of potential local flooding and further severe weather conditions until August 16. Residents are advised to remain cautious as the region braces for more turbulent weather in the coming days.
