Pedestrian Safety Crisis in Milan

Published: 2024-12-22

Milan is grappling with a troubling rise in pedestrian accidents, with two serious incidents occurring within hours on December 20. Ubaldina Humancusi Ventura, a 52-year-old Peruvian woman, was fatally struck by a car while crossing a pedestrian crossing on Via Lorenteggio.

Despite immediate medical attention, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.

The driver, who stopped to assist, is now under investigation for vehicular manslaughter.

Earlier that day, a mother and her disabled son were hit by a car in Via De Nicola.

The driver fled but was later arrested for failing to provide assistance.

These incidents highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures in Milan, as pedestrian fatalities continue to rise.
