Ten healthcare workers at a Rome care center managed by the Italian Red Cross have been arrested for shocking abuse of patients.

The staff are accused of torture, mistreatment, and in one case, sexual assault against vulnerable individuals with severe mental and physical disabilities.

Investigators described the situation as a 'gallery of horrors,' documenting constant violence, mockery, and degrading treatment.

The abuse came to light after Red Cross officials reported a patient with visible bruising in April 2023. Subsequent investigations revealed a pattern of cruelty, with staff inflicting physical violence and verbal humiliation on helpless patients.

The accused now face serious charges, highlighting a disturbing breach of trust in a facility meant to provide care and support.
