An Irish man in his fifties was arrested after causing chaos at the emergency room of the Angelo Hospital in Mestre, Italy.

The incident occurred early Sunday morning when the man, recently discharged after a night of intoxication, went on a destructive spree, smashing eight monitors and overturning the waiting area.

Two brave nurses managed to protect about ten patients, including a woman in labor, by guiding them to safety.

The police intervened before the man could harm anyone.

This marks the first application of a new law in the region aimed at protecting healthcare workers from workplace violence.

The damages are estimated to be in the thousands of euros, and the hospital staff is receiving psychological support to cope with the trauma.

Regional President Luca Zaia condemned the act and praised the healthcare workers for their exemplary response.
