An internal investigation has been launched by the Asl Napoli 1 Centro following allegations of mistreatment at the San Paolo Hospital in Fuorigrotta, Naples.
Two elderly patients in the neurology department were reportedly tied to their beds with strips of sheets, sparking outrage after images and videos surfaced online.
The hospital, previously embroiled in controversy over a patient found in a bed infested with ants, faces scrutiny once again.
The medical staff claimed the restraints were for the patients' safety to prevent falls, but such measures should be agreed upon with family members.
A commission is set to deliver a report by Wednesday to determine any responsibilities in this case.
