The President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, expressed his commitment to addressing the long-standing safety issues at the Vela Celeste in Scampia.

He highlighted a technical report from eight years ago that warned of severe dangers due to deteriorating joints, raising concerns about the lack of action since then.

De Luca stated that the situation is alarming and will be investigated by the relevant authorities.

In light of recent tragedies, he emphasized the need for solidarity and operational efficiency to prevent further incidents.

Meanwhile, the Italian Prime Minister's office has authorized the display of half-mast flags in Naples as a sign of mourning, following the mayor's decree for a city-wide day of mourning.

This will include the Italian and European flags on public buildings on July 29 and 30, 2024.
