Alpinists Trapped in Gran Sasso Blizzard

Two experienced climbers, Luca Perazzini, 42, and Cristian Gualdi, 48, are missing in the Gran Sasso mountains after falling into a ravine during a snowstorm.

The pair, from Santarcangelo di Romagna, were descending from Bivacco Bafile when extreme weather struck, with temperatures dropping to -8°C and winds reaching 140 km/h.

Despite managing to call for help, rescue efforts have been repeatedly halted due to whiteout conditions and severe winds.

Rescuers and family members remain stranded at Campo Imperatore, unable to proceed or return due to the storm.

The climbers, separated by 20 meters, are battling freezing conditions, with one showing signs of hypothermia.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, but worsening weather complicates rescue plans.
