Southern Italy experienced two significant earthquakes on the evening of October 20th, causing widespread concern.
The first quake, with a magnitude of 4.6, struck the Gargano coast in Puglia at 8:37 PM, followed by a smaller tremor minutes later.
The seismic activity was felt across Puglia, Molise, and Basilicata, prompting residents in towns like Lesina and San Nicandro Garganico to rush outdoors in panic.
Local authorities, including Puglia’s Civil Protection, reported no immediate damage or injuries but remain on high alert.
In San Nicandro Garganico, officials are assessing the stability of older buildings and considering school closures for safety checks.
The tremors come amid heightened seismic activity in southern Italy, including recent quakes in Campania, adding to public anxiety.
Monitoring and safety measures are ongoing as the region braces for potential aftershocks.
