A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Pietrapaola in the province of Cosenza, Italy, at 9:43 PM on August 1. The quake, which occurred at a depth of 21 kilometers, was felt strongly in southern Puglia, particularly in the provinces of Taranto, Brindisi, and Lecce.
Residents reported significant shaking, prompting many to rush into the streets in panic.
Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
Local officials, including Cosenza's mayor, Franz Caruso, confirmed that while the tremors were alarming, the situation remained under control.
