A tragic accident occurred early this morning on the Bologna-Venezia railway line, resulting in the death of a 47-year-old technician.

The worker, employed by an external contractor for Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), was struck by the Intercity Roma-Trieste train near San Giorgio di Piano.

The incident led to the suspension of train services between Castel Maggiore and San Pietro in Casale, causing significant delays and rerouting of high-speed and regional trains.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances, with initial reports suggesting the technician may have moved outside the designated work area.

RFI and the Italian Minister of Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, have expressed their condolences to the victim's family.
