A devastating incident occurred at the San Matteo Hospital in Pavia, where 30-year-old Andreea Mihaela Antochi and her newborn son, Sasha Andrei Lovin, tragically lost their lives during childbirth.
Andreea, originally from Romania and living in Villanterio, suffered a cardiac arrest, likely triggered by a rare respiratory crisis.
Despite an emergency cesarean section, doctors were unable to save the baby.
Initial investigations suggest the possibility of amniotic fluid entering the mother's bloodstream, a rare and often fatal complication.
The hospital has launched an internal review, while the Pavia Prosecutor's Office is conducting a criminal investigation to determine any medical negligence.
Both autopsies and medical records are being examined to uncover the exact cause of this heartbreaking loss.
