Laura Bonafede, a 56-year-old elementary school teacher from Campobello, has been sentenced to 11 years and 4 months in prison for mafia association.

The ruling was made by Judge Paolo Magro in Palermo.

Bonafede, the daughter of a local mafia boss and wife of a convicted murderer, was also the lover of notorious fugitive Matteo Messina Denaro.

Her involvement with the mafia and her intimate knowledge of Denaro's secrets have brought her to the forefront of this high-profile case.
