A powerful earthquake of magnitude 3.9 struck the Campi Flegrei area near Naples at 3:30 PM on Sunday, February 16. The epicenter was located in the Gulf of Pozzuoli at a depth of 2.5 kilometers.
This is the strongest quake in the region since early 2025. The tremor was felt across Pozzuoli, Bacoli, and several neighborhoods in Naples, causing alarm among residents.
Two smaller aftershocks followed later in the afternoon.
Authorities have initiated structural inspections in schools and public buildings, while some areas reported minor damages, including a disrupted water network in Bacoli.
Local officials have activated emergency response centers to monitor the situation and assist residents.
