Meloni Challenges EU's Green Policies

Published: 2024-09-19

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has voiced strong opposition to the European Union's current environmental policies, particularly the Green Deal, which she describes as "autodistruttivo".

Speaking at the Confindustria assembly, Meloni emphasized the need for Italy to support its industries and families, promising a budget focused on job creation and economic necessity.

She criticized the EU's plan to phase out internal combustion engines by 2035, arguing it threatens Italy's automotive sector.

Meloni's stance aligns with Confindustria's new president, Emanuele Orsini, who also called for a reevaluation of the EU's approach to decarbonization.

This united front marks a significant pushback against EU policies, with Meloni advocating for a more balanced approach that supports industrial competitiveness while addressing environmental goals.
