Italy Challenges EU Green Deal Strategy

Published: 2024-09-18

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has voiced strong criticism of the European Green Deal, labeling it as a "debacle" that risks deindustrialization.

Speaking at the Confindustria assembly, Meloni emphasized the need to revise the EU's industrial policies to protect Europe's industrial capacity.

She was supported by Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, who echoed the call for a drastic overhaul of the Green Deal, which he described as a nightmare for European businesses and workers.

Both leaders stressed the importance of aligning government and business strategies to ensure Europe's economic resilience.

The discussion also highlighted the need for permanent tax cuts and strategic investments beyond the current recovery plans, aiming for a more assertive industrial policy in Europe.
