Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni outlined her government’s priorities ahead of the upcoming European Council meeting.

She emphasized the need for a balanced approach to decarbonization, warning that an over-reliance on electric vehicles could harm Europe’s automotive industry.

On Ukraine, Meloni reaffirmed Italy’s financial and military support, highlighting a €50 billion credit line and plans to host a reconstruction conference in 2025. She also stressed the importance of combating human trafficking and revising EU migration policies.

Regarding international trade, Meloni called for guarantees to protect Italian agriculture in the EU-Mercosur agreement.

Additionally, she welcomed the fall of Assad’s regime in Syria and expressed Italy’s readiness to engage with the new leadership.
