Magistrates Strike Over Judicial Reforms

Magistrates across Italy staged a nationwide strike to protest proposed judicial reforms by the government.

The reforms, which include separating the roles of prosecutors and judges, have sparked concerns about threats to judicial independence.

In cities like Milan, Naples, and Turin, magistrates, students, and citizens gathered for public assemblies and flash mobs to voice their opposition.

The Italian National Magistrates Association (ANM) emphasized that the strike is not about protecting privileges but defending constitutional principles and citizens' rights.

Critics argue the reforms could expose prosecutors to political influence, undermining their impartiality.

The government, however, denies these claims, stating the changes aim to modernize the judiciary.

The protests come ahead of a scheduled meeting between magistrates and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
