Justice Reform Takes Center Stage

Published: 2025-02-08

The Italian Justice Minister, Carlo Nordio, addressed the inauguration of the judicial year for criminal lawyers in Milan, emphasizing his commitment to justice reform.

Nordio highlighted progress on the long-debated separation of judicial careers, a key demand of criminal lawyers, and expressed determination to see the reform through despite opposition.

He announced plans for the reform to be approved by March, with a referendum to follow, allowing citizens to weigh in on this critical issue.

Additionally, Nordio discussed prison reforms, including a plan to create 8,000 new spaces within two years to address overcrowding and reduce suicides in detention facilities.

The event also featured debates on judicial independence and the evolution of Italy's legal system, drawing attention to pressing issues in the justice sector.
