The Italian government has implemented a controversial decree to establish migrant centers in Gjader, Albania.
These centers will house migrants awaiting deportation for up to 18 months, applying Italian law within their operations.
The European Commission has stated that the initiative aligns with EU law in principle but differs from proposed EU regulations on third-country repatriation centers.
The move has sparked debate, as transferring migrants to non-origin or non-transit countries is not standard practice.
Meanwhile, Italy and the UK are strengthening cooperation to combat illegal migration, focusing on dismantling smuggling networks.
The centers in Albania mark a significant step in Italy's broader strategy to manage migration flows.
