Italy's Air Pollution Crisis Deepens

Published: 2025-02-04

Legambiente's latest report highlights a worsening air pollution crisis in Italy, with 23 cities now exceeding legal smog limits, up from 18 last year.

Naples, while not among the worst for PM10 levels, faces critical issues with nitrogen dioxide (NO2), requiring reductions of up to 50% to meet 2030 targets.

Campania's cities, including Acerra and San Vitaliano, are among the most affected, with alarming levels of PM10 and PM2.5. The report warns that 85% of Campania's cities exceed annual PM10 limits, and nearly half surpass NO2 thresholds.

Legambiente calls for urgent action from local and national authorities to address this structural problem and transition to sustainable urban mobility.
