Italian Cities Lag in Environmental Rankings

Published: 2024-10-28

The latest Ecosistema Urbano 2024 report by Legambiente, in collaboration with Ambiente Italia and Il Sole 24 Ore, paints a concerning picture of environmental performance across Italian cities.

Among the 106 provincial capitals evaluated, cities in Puglia rank in the lower half, with Lecce at 58th and Bari at 89th.

Brindisi, Taranto, and Foggia also fall behind, ranking 71st, 79th, and 84th respectively.

Meanwhile, Naples emerges as the lowest among major cities and fourth from the bottom overall, plagued by poor air quality and other environmental challenges.

This report highlights the urgent need for improved environmental policies and practices in these regions.
