A 36-year-old Georgian man has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire at the control tower offices of Ciampino Airport in Rome.
The incident occurred early in the morning when the man reportedly followed an air traffic controller, attacked him, and gained access to the ground-floor offices.
He then set fire to furniture and equipment, causing smoke and a temporary evacuation of the control tower.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, and no injuries were reported.
The airport resumed normal operations shortly after, with no damage to critical air traffic systems.
The suspect faces charges including arson, aggravated damage, and endangering transport safety.
Transport Minister Matteo Salvini condemned the act, calling for swift action to address the incident.
