The chaos, which led to widespread delays and cancellations, prompted opposition parties to demand the resignation of Transport Minister Matteo Salvini.

Critics argue that Salvini has been inattentive to transport issues, focusing instead on social media and other events.

Salvini, however, attributed the disruption to a private contractor's error, which damaged a crucial cable.

He assured that those responsible would be held accountable.
