In Trentino, the controversial killing of a two-year-old bear, M91, has sparked a heated debate.
The bear was deemed dangerous after repeatedly entering inhabited areas and following a person last spring.
The decision to remove M91 was made under the Pacobace plan, aimed at preventing potential threats to public safety.
However, animal rights groups, including the Lega Italiana Difesa Animali e Ambiente, have condemned the action, accusing local authorities of acting hastily and ignoring non-lethal management alternatives.
They argue that the bear's behavior did not warrant such drastic measures and have vowed to pursue legal action.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between wildlife conservation efforts and public safety concerns in the region.
