Kj1 Bear's Fate Sparks Outrage

Published: 2024-07-30

The ongoing debate over the fate of Kj1, a bear involved in an attack on a French tourist in Trentino, has intensified following a non-binding opinion from the Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale (Ispra).

The provincial president, Maurizio Fugatti, has signed a decree for the bear's immediate removal, citing its history of dangerous interactions with humans.

Animal rights groups are outraged, arguing that the bear's capture and monitoring should suffice instead of lethal measures.

They emphasize that killing Kj1 would not only be cruel but also legally questionable, as it contradicts previous court rulings.

The situation remains tense as animal welfare organizations prepare to challenge the decree in court, advocating for the bear's protection and the well-being of her cubs.
