Tragic End for Malian Migrant in Italy

Published: 2024-10-21

Moussa Diarra, a 26-year-old migrant from Mali, was fatally shot by police at Verona's Porta Nuova station after allegedly attacking officers with a knife.

Moussa arrived in Italy at 15, seeking a better future, but faced numerous challenges, including bureaucratic hurdles for his residency permit.

Recently, he had found work in agriculture and was receiving assistance with legal documentation.

However, Moussa struggled with mental health issues, possibly exacerbated by his precarious situation.

His death has sparked a call for remembrance and reflection on the systemic challenges faced by migrants in Italy.

Local associations plan to honor his memory with a gathering at the station.
