Tragic A22 Crash Verdict Delivered

Published: 2025-03-25

Monica Lorenzatti and Alberto Marchetti have been sentenced to two years each for their roles in a devastating 2017 crash on the A22 highway near Trento, Italy.

Lorenzatti, driving a Ford Focus, collided with Marchetti’s truck, leading to the deaths of her 9-year-old daughter, Gioia, and 17-year-old niece, Ginevra, both promising skaters.

Tragically, Lorenzatti’s twin sister, Graziella, also passed away 20 months later due to injuries from the crash.

The court also imposed a six-month license suspension for Lorenzatti and ordered both defendants to pay legal costs and additional compensation totaling €325,000. This comes on top of €1.45 million already paid to the victims’ families.

Both defendants plan to appeal, with Lorenzatti’s lawyer arguing the crash was unavoidable and highlighting technical faults in the truck.

The case has left deep scars on all involved, with Marchetti reportedly haunted by the tragedy.
