A two-year-old boy is in critical condition after falling from the third floor of a building in Alessandria's Cristo district.

The tragic incident occurred when the child leaned out of a window to retrieve a toy that had fallen.

His mother, occupied with nursing a newborn, and his grandmother, who was nearby, were unable to prevent the fall.

The grandmother was the first to notice and rushed to help, moving the boy slightly before emergency services arrived.

The child was transported in critical condition to Alessandria's pediatric hospital, where he remains in intensive care.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances, but early reports suggest it was a tragic accident.
