Stefano Bonaccini, President of Emilia-Romagna, has officially resigned, paving the way for a new era in regional politics.
The Democratic Party (PD) has rallied behind Michele De Pascale, the 39-year-old Mayor of Ravenna, as their candidate for the upcoming regional elections.
De Pascale, known for his administrative experience and handling of the 2023 flood crisis, has gained support from key party figures, including Vincenzo Colla and Bologna Mayor Matteo Lepore.
The center-left coalition, now expanded to include the Five Star Movement, appears united behind De Pascale.
Meanwhile, the center-right is considering Elena Ugolini, a civic candidate with a background in education, as their potential nominee.
The regional elections are expected to take place in mid-November, marking a significant transition in Emilia-Romagna's political landscape.
