Naples Metro Line 6 Set to Open After 40-Year Wait

Published: 2024-07-12

Naples is set to inaugurate its long-awaited Metro Line 6 on July 16, with public service starting July 17. The new line, which has been in development for nearly 40 years, will connect Fuorigrotta to Piazza Municipio in just 13 minutes, covering 5.5 kilometers with eight stations.

Initially operating on a reduced summer schedule from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, the line will run five refurbished trains with a frequency of 13.5 minutes.

Hitachi Rail, responsible for the line's development, plans to introduce 22 new trains by 2027, potentially reducing wait times to 4.5 minutes.

The project, costing 833 million euros, aims to significantly improve Naples' public transportation network and reduce car dependency.
