Two young children, aged 4 and 2, have been removed from their home in Paola, Italy, following allegations of severe abuse by their mother and grandmother.
The older child remains in intensive care with multiple injuries, including broken ribs and a fractured clavicle, while the younger sibling is undergoing medical evaluations for similar trauma.
Authorities acted swiftly after doctors reported that the injuries were inconsistent with the mother’s claims of accidental falls.
Both women deny the accusations, but the children have been placed under the care of a court-appointed guardian.
Investigations are ongoing as the community grapples with the shocking case.
