Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in Libya for the Trans-Mediterranean Migration Forum in Tripoli, marking the first stop of her upcoming institutional trips.
Accompanied by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, Meloni engaged in a debate with Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of the National Unity Government controlling western Libya.
During the forum, where she was warmly received, Meloni reiterated her stance on migration.
She emphasized that 'illegal migrants are enemies of legal ones' and explained that Italy has been unable to accommodate many legal migrants in recent years due to the high number of irregular arrivals.
Meloni's visit underscores Italy's focus on addressing migration issues in collaboration with North African partners.
