Listeria Outbreak Sparks Legal Action

Published: 2025-02-19

A woman in her seventies tragically died in 2024 after consuming pork coppa contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The salami, produced by a company in Arezzo and purchased in Umbertide, contained levels of the bacteria exceeding legal limits.

The victim, already suffering from another illness, was hospitalized with severe symptoms but passed away after a month of treatment.

Investigations by health authorities confirmed the contamination, leading to charges of manslaughter against the company owner.

The case now awaits a judge's decision on whether to proceed to trial.

Listeria infections, often linked to contaminated food, pose serious risks to vulnerable groups, including the elderly and immunocompromised individuals.
