A homeless woman from Uruguay gave birth on the streets of Palermo, Italy, near the intersection of Via Michele Cipolla and Via Gaspare Mignosi.
The incident occurred early in the morning, prompting a passerby to alert emergency services.
Police arrived quickly, finding the woman and her newborn wrapped in a blanket at a construction site.
Both were taken to the hospital for care.
However, shortly after receiving medical attention, the mother left the hospital, abandoning the baby.
The infant, weighing 2.54 kilograms, is now in good health and under the care of the hospital's neonatal unit.
