Ursula von der Leyen has been reconfirmed as President of the European Commission for a second term by the European Parliament in Strasbourg.

The secret ballot saw support from the People's Party, Socialists, Liberals, and Greens.

However, Italy's Brothers of Italy party, part of the ECR group, voted against her despite von der Leyen's openness to dialogue.

The President emphasized her desire for the 'most prepared candidates who share the European commitment' as she plans to interview potential commissioners from mid-August.

Von der Leyen's reconfirmation marks a clear divide between pro-EU democratic forces and those seen as anti-establishment, with her mandate focused on building a 'strong Europe'.
