Transport Strike in Italy Faces Disruptions

Published: 2024-10-05

A nationwide transport strike in Italy, initially planned for October 5, has faced significant disruptions.

The strike, organized by the Orsa union, aimed to protest against the lack of renewal of the national contract for transport workers.

However, in Milan, the strike was called off due to public order concerns.

The Prefect of Milan intervened, citing the overlap with a pro-Palestinian demonstration and a major football match between Inter and Torino, which could have led to severe public safety issues.

While the strike was revoked in Milan, other cities across Italy, including Rome and Bologna, are expected to experience disruptions as the strike continues in those areas.

The Orsa union emphasized the need to highlight the poor working conditions and wages affecting transport workers nationwide.
