A 23-year-old man, Giuseppe Russo, tragically passed away in the intensive care unit of the Policlinico di Bari due to complications from a violin spider bite.
The incident occurred on July 13 in Collepasso, Lecce, while Russo was gardening for his employer.
Initially mistaking the bite for a mosquito sting, Russo's condition worsened, leading to high fever and severe symptoms.
Despite being hospitalized in Tricase and later discharged, his health deteriorated, resulting in septic shock and multi-organ failure.
The violin spider, although not aggressive, can cause serious health issues if its bite is not treated promptly.
The community of Collepasso mourns the loss of Russo, with local officials expressing deep condolences to his family.
