Traffic Surge Expected This Weekend

Published: 2024-07-26

As the summer holiday season kicks off, Italy braces for a significant surge in traffic this weekend, particularly on Saturday, July 27, and Sunday, July 28. The Anas has announced the suspension of 906 construction sites, which is about 70% of the current active projects, to ease congestion on major routes.

A "red alert" for traffic has been issued, especially on the Adriatic, Tyrrhenian, and Ionian highways, as millions of Italians head to vacation spots.

Heavy traffic is expected on key routes, including the A2 "Autostrada del Mediterraneo" and the SS36 in Lombardy.

To further alleviate the situation, a ban on heavy vehicles will be in effect during peak hours.

Anas teams will be monitoring the roads 24/7 to ensure smooth travel and respond to emergencies promptly.
